“David and Barbara Jones have been interested in Australian native orchids since their teenage years. They have travelled widely throughout Australia for the past four decades in their quest to see as many species as possible growing in the wild. Their travels take in remote regions as well as suburban bushland relicts and remnant patches in the country. Memorable evets include wandering through incredible massed orchid flowerings after bushfires, observing the intricate pollination activities between orchids and insects and the exciting discovery of rare species and those new to science.
David, with the help from Barbara, has written books on various plant groups including ferns, orchids, palms, cycads and climbing plants. He has also combined with Rodger Elliot to compile the authoritative series Encyclopaedia of Australian Plants Suitable for Cultivation. Barbara delights in garden and native plants. Her embroidery reflects the colours and patterns she sees in the Australian Bush.
In this book, they record some of Australia’s precious native orchids with the aim of simulating interest in these fascinating plants.”
