"Snook was an ugly duckling of a boy; tall, clumsy, and ungainly. He just couldn't do anything right. He fell overboard from his father's tuna-clipper, Blue Fin, and lost her the race for port. When he got a part-time job at the tuna-canning factory, he lost it. He was involved in the uproarious incident of placing a tuna in the Mayor's seat, to welcome the Governor. He was on trouble at school, and in worse trouble at home - especially since his father had made up his mind that he would never amount to anything."
