“This book has arisen as a result of two distinct forces. Primarily it came from the direct request of a small group of people. I had put them through a ten-week foundation course in massage and they wanted to learn more. So, I agreed to train them as therapists, to a full professional standard. This book is the theoretical back up to that training.
The second force that gave rise to the book was an internal one: It is the instinctive desire to pass on what one has discovered. I have been massaging people since 1977 and in that time, I have developed my own style and realm of expertise with massage. This has been influenced strongly by osteopathic techniques, by the approach of Zen Shiatsu and Chinese Acupressure, as well as by my own innate sensitivity and desire to heal myself. The resultant fusion is, I believe, an extremely effective way of healing with the hands, an ancient art which is simply called massage.”
