'Flora Annie Steel was a remarkable Victorian who spent most of her life in India. Her collection of some forty traditional English Fairy Tales, here reprinted in facsimile, was first published by Macmillan in 1918, illustrated in both colour and black and white by the incomparable Arthur Rackham.
When first published, the illustrated London News said - 'Mr Rackham's work is as delightful as ever and in the present volume he seems to surpass himself. Fortunate indeed will be the child who first makes acquaintance with the old English stories through this medium.' Those words are just as true today as sixty years ago.'
