“This collection of readings has established itself as one of the standard texts for students of Australian politics. First published in 1979 and slightly revised in 1980 this, the third edition, has been substantially altered in content, though not in structure, to bring it into line with current thinking and political changes. As a result, only six chapters remain unaltered from the previous edition and almost half the book is new. There are important new chapters on the Cabinet and the Prime Minister, the electoral systems and a new section on ‘social structure’. However, the book continues to be a collection of both of specially commissioned articles and reprints of influential academic contributions previously published elsewhere.”
