{publishers note}: 'This book is an autobiography, a factual account of the author's life as a prostitute in London.  It is, for obvious reasons, published anonymously.  For the same reasons identities and events have been disguised, and every character in the book bears a fictitious name.'

The Bodley Head, 1959 [First Edition], hardcover, dustjacket

Near Fine Condition, book clean, tight and bright, previous owners inscription whited out on front flyleaf, minor edge and shelf wear to dustjacket, otherwise like new

'Streetwalker treats a much-discussed subject with honesty and dignity.  The author is a young woman who for ten months was a prostitute in the West End of London.  At the end of that time she was able to muster her waning objectivity and will-power, and to escape before she could be sucked down by the vortex.
This serious book is essentially autobiographical, but for obvious reasons facts and identities have had to be disguised, and certain incidents transposed and altered in detail.  Because the author is a gifted and introspective writer she has produced a work as different as can be imagined from the 'true confessions' so often carpentered together by sensational ghost-writers.  She has begun a new life; her book is a moving and courageous attempt to rid herself of the horror in her past.'
