Authors Note:
“Spoken disingenuously ‘Thanks a lot’ means ‘Thanks for nothing’, and in this sense there is much for which the characters of this book would be unthankful. The harsh punishment regime establishment by Arthur, with its inequitable implementation, left many scars, both physical and mental, on the poor unfortunates who paid the price of settling this Colony, but, at the same time, Arthur had a fair steak that often seems to be hidden by other commentators in their treatment of him.
I have created a historical narrative incorporating all the documentary evidence relating specifically to the characters and information from relevant authentic material of the day to complete their stories. It includes as much historical information as could be discovered about their criminal trials, detention in England, transportation to Van Diemen’s Land, and their lives as convicts here until they obtained their freedom. The stories told are my imagined happenings based on the information that is available and it not meant to be a true, definitive life of any of the characters involved or their actions. The historical information is, however, accurate and is sourced at the rea of the book.”
