"In this new issue of the book, the first chapter has been rewritten to bring it more nearly in accord with the present-day scholarship and to add certain elements that were omitted int eh first publication.  The dates of the history of the Ancient New East have been altered to accord with recent findings.  Minor changes and corrections have been made throughout the book, and the last chapter has been enlarged slightly to carry the story in brief to its conclusion."
