“In Japan the author interviewed General MacArthur and General H. C. H. Robertson and had many opportunities of observing how the troops of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force performed their difficult tasks.  These interviews provide some of the most interesting reading in a book which has all the verve, shrewd observation and lively and intelligent recording that are always to be found in Frank Clune’s writings.
Clune visited Hiroshima, the “Phoenix City”, and obtained vivid narratives of their experiences from survivors of the Atom Bomb.  After touring Japan, far and fast, he flew to Shanghai, and went by train to Nanking where he interviewed many of the Chinese leaders.  These talks took place at a time of great national importance and Frank Clune has imparted the urgency of the situation.  Throughout the book, however, there is no lessening of the author’s characteristic gusto and high-spirited, breezy humour.”
