“"The Pacemaker" chronicles the life of Sir Thomas Playford form his childhood to the present. he left school at thirteen to work on his father's orchard at Norton Summit. At the age of nineteen he enlisted as a private in the A.I.F., served with distinction in the 27th Infantry Battalion in Gallipoli, England and France and returned to Australia in 1919 with the rank of lieutenant.
It is very rare for any man to become a legend in his own lifetime; more particularly in his native city, but Sir Thomas Playford has become this and more. Through his biography we see the progress and development of South Australia which is the highest tribute that can be paid to this great statesman.”
