'It was the aim of the Society to produce a book retaining the strong appeal to children (and their parents) at a price that all could afford. To this end the Society decided to act as its own publisher.
"Wildflower Diary" has been arranged on a calendar basis to retain the seasonal emphasis of the original notes. This is not to say that all species described under a given month will be found in flower during that month. In some articles a species in flower at the time was used by Miss Waddell to introduce and discuss related species which flower at other times. To avoid any confusion in this respect, the months of flowering of all species described in the book are indicated in the index at the end.'
